Facebook Confirms Removal of Suggest to Friends Feature from Pages

Facebook removed the Suggest to Friends link from Pages last week when a bug caused the feature to load incorrectly. However, an article in the Help Center confirms that the option will not be returned to users, and that they should now use the Share button to ask Friends to Like a Page. The closing of this viral channel should reduce Page suggestion spam, but may also stunt the growth of Pages unless they pay for more ads.Admins will still be able access the Suggest to Friends feature on their own Pages,  Users can’t access the feature, but can instead use the Share button, located at the very bottom left Pages. The Share button allows users to make a post of the Page to their profile, “which may appear in their friends’ News Feeds”. Users can also opt to Share directly to specific friends via Message, and can send up to 20 of these at a time.

The most likely reason for this change was that page administrators were typically the only people likely to use the tool. This also prevents page administrators from encouraging fans to share their page with others.
There’s also a chance that Facebook will come up with alternative solutions for easily sharing your favorite pages.

How To Remove Tagged Photos from Top of New Facebook Profile

The New Facebook Profile now comes with some cool improvements. It involves a stream of five photos displayed at the top of user profile. The photo streams shows the recently tagged photos or photos from profile picture album of the user. Facebook hasn’t yet any option to disable and remove the photos at the top of the profile. But you can remove a specific photo from appearing at the top of Facebook new profile. This will help you to clean the photos from any wrongly untagged images, pictures of spam nature, or simply photos that you don’t want others to see directly on Profile page

Procedure to Remove Tagged Photos on Top of New Facebook Profile

1) First login to your Facebook account.
2) Roll over your mouse on the photo and click the “x” that floats in the top-right corner.
3) Now the photo will be hidden from view. but you can still find the photo on your photos page.
4) Another way: You can change your privacy settings, so that nobody can see the tagged photos at the top of the profile.
5) To do this, choose the “Privacy Settings” option from the account option present at the top of your Facebook page.
6) Now select “Customize Settings” in the “Sharing on Facebook” section.
 7) Then hit the “Edit Settings” for “Photos and videos I’m tagged in” option.
Now select the new privacy settings for “Who can see photos and videos I’m tagged in” from the drop-down list.
9) Select “Friends Only” option, so except your friends, no one else can see the photos.
 10) Click on “Okay” when you’re done.

Google Scribe to Improve your Text Typing & Spelling

Google Scribe is a text completion service offered by Google. Now you can use Google’s auto-completion powers for more than just searching. This new service lets the web fill out your sentences for you in a dedicated editing tool. Apart from it, Google Scribe auto-types anywhere on the web with a bookmarklet.
Google Scribe is very beneficial for those users who have typing problems. The program includes the quick related text suggestion or phrase completion suggestion prompted based on the information users have typed in a document. This will reduce the typing mistakes of the users. You can see these suggestions in a pop down list. You just need to select the related word/phrases by pressing enter or the relevant number key.
The language menu allows you to choose your preferred language. You can find the language menu in the toolbar above the text area. The program by default, shows the suggestions of user type. You can change the option from “Always” to “On demand”, if you want only the occasional help offered by Google Scribe. Currently the tool is only available in English, though the presence of a language drop-down box strongly suggests others will be available very soon. I believe Google’s mobile users will get the real advantage from this service, as they don’t have access to a full keyboard. So what are you waiting for? Check out Google Scribe and let us know what you think about it.

FreeOCR – Extract Text From Scanned Images

You might have encountered a situation where you need to “digitize” stacks of text documents such as contract agreements and written notes. Although it is fairly easy to use a desktop scanner to convert the documents into the digital format but have you wonder if the output from the scanner is processing ready? The free Windows-based Optical Character Recognition (OCR) application – FreeOCR is the helpful tool which allow you to convert a scanned document into electronic files containing readable text.

In contrast to the scanned image, the files generated by FreeOCR are processable by word processors to support functions such as text search and editing. FreeOCR is a relatively small application with simple GUI to scan a document and convert it into processing ready text files. FreeOCR is a great alternative if you do not wish to install the huge companion software that usually bundled together with the scanner.

Here are the features of FreeOCR:
  • Scan a document from any Twain or Wia compatible scanner using scanning resolution of 300dpi
  • Supports most image files including multipage TIFF files
  • FreeOCR utilizes the open source Tesseract OCR engine which enables it to extract and recognize the text precisely.  Tesseract OCR engine is currently maintained by Google and it is one of the most accurate open source OCR engines available today.
  • OCR PDF rendering without any 3rd party software installed e.g. Ghostscript or Adobe Acrobat
  • Supported languages include Portuguese (Brazilian), Fraktur (Old German), Dutch, Spanish, German, Italian, Vietnamese, French and English.
  • Available for Windows 2000, 2003, XP, Vista, Win 7.
FreeOCR is distributed under the Apache V2.0 license and it is a freeware including free commercial use. FreeOCR is available free download at
http://www.paperfile.net/freeocr.exe.

Beware! Facebook Apps can now Access Your Phone and Address Details

Facebook has the knack to piss off users, specially those privacy freaks. We have previously warned you about keeping an eye on what permissions you are giving to the Facebook apps you are installing. Now, you have even more reasons to get paranoid, as Facebook has announced that it now lets developers access your phone number and home address, if they choose, when you use their apps.
To be fair on Facebook, it is only making this data available to the apps if you, the user, specifically approve it. Moreover all those apps you have already installed won’t have automatic access to these information. So, next time you install a Facebook app, look out for the “Access my contact information: Current Address and Mobile Phone Number” permission request

Facebook’s obnoxiously huge valuation is because of the data – the personal data of millions of users, all fed manually by the users themselves. And there is a huge demand for this data out in the market. If some app developer is greedy enough, he might sell your contact information to unwanted marketing mailing lists. Of-course Facebook mandates app developers to only request data they need to operate their apps, not to sell data on to third parties and to display a clear privacy policy. But how often and effectively they control is not well known.
In a nutshell, it has become more important than ever to read the fine print before permitting an app to access your Facebook data. If it is looking for your contact information, think and re-think if it is a genuine app and worthy enough to be fed with personal info such as contact address and phone number.{via:techpp}

Facebook Shutting Down on March 15th?

This rumor is spreading all across the web that facebook would shut down its operations on March 15, 2011.
This news initiated from Twitter and later on got published on various blogs and news websites. The source mentioned everywhere is a press conference conducted by March Mark Zuckerberg outside his Palo Alto office.
Zuckerberg was quoted as “Facebook has gotten out of control, and the stress of managing this company has ruined my life. I need to put an end to all the madness.”
Zuckerberg went on to explain that starting March 15th, users will no longer be able to access their Facebook accounts.
Not only this, there are comments of Vice President of Technical Affairs at Facebook “Mr. Avrat Humarthi” as well saying After March 15th the whole website shuts down, So if you ever want to see your pictures again, I recommend you take them off the internet. You won’t be able to get them back once Facebook goes out of business”.
The news quite obviously seems a rumor, since Mark himself is fond of posting such astounding things on his Facebook page, as last time we saw the Time Magazine update on his page.
“I don’t care about the money,” said Zuckerberg. “I just want my old life back.”
The way different sources have posted his “I Don’t Care attitude” about the billions of money he is earning from Facebook does not give a very realistic picture. The truth on the other hand is that it is not at all easy to wind up such immensely growing business. The website with over 500 million active users no doubt looks difficult to manage, but instead of shutting it down every sane would definitely think of selling it out to get max benefit possible.
Anyhow, The Facebook Corporation suggests that users remove all of their personal information from the website before March 15th. After that date, all photos, notes, links, and videos will be permanently erased.

Steal Facebook Password and Username from Any Computer (Retrieve and Recover Facebook Password and Username from Any Computer)

In case you forgot your Facebook username and password, don’t worry! Actually it is very easy to recover and retrieve (or even steal) them from you computer and without resetting and restoring any account! In fact, forgetting account passwords is so common that in the Internet there are dozens of free software which are devoted to…save your life. The free application I am about to show you is “specialized” so to speak with Facebook private login information, so download it right away and keep it at hand, just in case something goes wrong. Keep in mind that this application will also let you steal Facebook passwords from any computer. So please be careful when you use public computers. Remember to delete all your sensitive information as well as clear the cache of these public machines to prevent other people and bad-hackers from stealing your secrets! While using outside Wi-fi hot spots, also be-aware of the Firesheep Firefox extension which is able to steal any password send via wi-fi.

FacebookPasswordDecryptor is a free utility which recovers your Facebook password and username from the most famous web browsers such as Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Opera etc. and messenger. Basically it crawls software installed on your computer and as soon as it detects an encrypted Facebook password it will try to recover it. You have to know that majority of browsers use their own proprietary encryption mechanism to store the login passwords. However with FacebookPasswordDecryptor this won’t be an issue anymore as such software manages to decrypt even the most difficult and secured scrambled , encrypted password…instantly!
